Barbara Bash
Barbara Bash is the author and illustrator of a number of children's books for Sierra Club and Greenwillow Books. Through her books she has explored the ecosystems of the saguaro cactus, the Indian banyan tree, and the old growth Douglas Fir, as well as the world of bats and urban birds. Her books have been featured on Reading Rainbow, and listed with Booklist Editor's Choice, John Burroughs List of Nature Books for Young Readers, the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List , and The CBC-NSTA Oustanding Science Trade Books for Children.
She has worked for many years as a calligrapher and teacher of expressive brushwork and illustrated journaling, collaborating with musicians, storytellers, and dancers. She now lives in the Hudson Valley of New York, where she creates her books and does expressive calligraphic performance work. Her most recent book is True Nature : An Illustrated Journal of Four Seasons in Solitude.
