Catalog/Metadata Librarian

We seek a knowledgeable, resourceful and service-oriented librarian for the position of Catalog/Metadata Librarian.  Reporting to the Head of Cataloging & Metadata Services, this new position will be responsible for original and copy cataloging of library resources in a wide variety of formats, languages and subject areas; may assume primary responsibility for one or more specific types of resources, dependent upon academic background, prior work experience and professional interests. Incumbent will be expected to stay abreast of evolving national and international cataloging/metadata standards; assist in the development and documentation of local policies and procedures; and work collegially within a department of four librarians and five paraprofessional staff. Incumbent may also participate in catalog management and record enhancement activities; train and oversee the work of staff; and serve on local and regional library committees as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required: ALA (American Library Association)-accredited master's degree or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent; knowledge of AACR2, LCRI, LCC, LCSH and MARC21 formats; familiarity with cataloging practices and procedures; experience working with automated library systems; effective organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; and a collegial, team-focused collaborative work style.  Preferred:  Professional cataloging experience in an academic library setting; experience with Exlibris Voyager and OCLC Connexion; experience cataloging special collections, non-book, or non-print materials; experience with authority control and catalog management activities; experience creating and managing non-MARC metadata; and reading knowledge of at least one language other than English.
