Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Resources Management, this librarian explores, coordinates, and implements digital information services initiatives for Dahlgren Memorial Library [DML]. This librarian is responsible for DML’s website, including design and content creation, maintenance, troubleshooting and coordination of necessary re-design planning. Primary responsibility for the integration of Web 2.0 applications, social networking tools, digital instruction / learning modules, and DML’s digital collections to enhance the library’s web presence, current library services and the use of digital solutions across the functional areas of the library. Assists in the implementation and coordination of DML’s usability testing program and digital reference service [online collaboration with end-users] including but not limited to use of instant messaging, blogs, wikis, RSS feeds and other emergent technologies to build and coordinate web-based tools for users, including knowledge paths, digital learning objects, downloadable resources, links to medical and medical education websites, practice questions for medical exams, medical algorithms, and medical calculators. Responsible for monitoring and educating the DML staff about ongoing development in harvesting technologies and increased network technologies, emerging library “finding tools” and innovative technology approaches at other medical libraries. In addition, this librarian works on integrating licensed electronic content into GUMC Blackboard classes, participates in library committees, and provides digital reference to GUMC faculty, students, researchers, and staff. Represents DML on and works with the School of Medicine web design and development team efforts.
This position reports to the Assistant Director for Resources Management. In addition, the librarian will have reporting responsibilities, when appropriate, to Library committees, teams, task forces and ad hoc / collaborative working groups.
Required: Master’s degree from ALA accredited MLS graduate program. Experience using and knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, office applications, and Internet applications (including Web and e-mail clients) as well as database creation and graphics manipulation and software. Experience and knowledge of web content management and publication; including website management using HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, and XML as well as Web 2.0 applications and social networking tools. Familiarity with current and emerging web technologies, and website design principles and practices. In addition, experience and knowledge of digital reference services and general library operations; including knowledge of Integrated Library Systems, Electronic Resources Management systems, and Open URL linking systems. Experience or coursework in Usability Testing preferred but not required. Experience working in an academic library setting, ideally with Health Sciences or Basic Sciences collections, preferred but not required.

Salary: From $40 K, depending on qualifications and experience.
