The University of California, Santa Barbara is looking for an Economics and Data Librarian.The successful candidate must be innovative, creative, energetic, self motivated and service oriented.
The librarian works individually and as part of a group to provide reference, bibliographic, and instructional services to students, faculty, staff, and the university community.He/she reports to the Head of Information Services and is a member of the Social Science Collection Group.Responsibilities includes scheduled reference service in all social sciences and humanities disciplines, research consultation, and electronic reference.Includes some evening and weekend assignments.
Designs and teaches course integrated classes and library credit bearing courses in information research methodology.Responsible for development and maintenance of printed and electronic guides to library resources.Responsible for all aspects of collection development for Economics and Business, including selection of information resources, storage and weeding decisions, faculty liaison, budgetary management and resource sharing.Assumes leadership role in planning and developing data services and collections.
Required – ALA accredited MLS. Academic background and/or knowledge of Economics and Social Sciences data sources, e.g. ICPSR.Demonstrated reference experience.Experience developing and delivering library instruction to specific classes or to students and faculty.Experience working with numeric data resources, including ability to install and support relevant software applications.Strong commitment to excellence in public service and ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.Demonstrated initiative and flexibility and ability to work effectively with faculty, students and staff.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred – Degree and/or relevant experience in the Social Sciences.Experience with collection development and familiarity with information resources in Social Sciences both print and electronic.Experience designing and maintaining Web sites and pages.Ability to download and transform data files to meet user needs.Proficiency with social sciences statistical packages and software, such as SAS and SPSS.
