The Brooklyn Campus Library at Long Island University (LIU) serves a multicultural community, providing access to print and electronic resources in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, and health sciences, including pharmacy and nursing. The Electronic Resources & Instruction Librarians will have a thorough grounding in traditional library services and demonstrated expertise in digital and emerging technologies.

These are two tenure-track faculty positions which include extensive instruction and reference responsibilities in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. Candidates must be fluent in new information and communication technologies, especially Web 2.0 and similar library-related applications; able to provide a high level of reference service; teach classes in information literacy and curriculum-integrated instruction programs; and be committed to providing client-centered services. Candidates will also be familiar with copyright and intellectual property issues.

Requirements: MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution and at least three years of reference experience, preferably in an academic library; excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills; an ability to interact and work with a diverse group of patrons and coworkers; an ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Successful candidates will demonstrate personal initiative in applying relevant technologies to teaching, learning, and instructional design. They will be able to meet changing user needs; to learn, to critically evaluate and to troubleshoot new technologies. They’ll have teaching skills necessary to create and deliver a wide range of information literacy initiatives; they will collaborate and communicate with Library administration and faculty; they will have the research skills needed to support faculty research and teaching initiatives. Candidates will have expertise in an online medium and have the vision to translate traditional library services into online media, including digital information and the management of knowledge.

Preferred: Candidates should have project management and assessment skills including an ability to sell ideas and market library services. Candidates should be familiar with library-related products such as OCLC, ILLiad, SFX, MARC, and metadata standards for the representation of library information in electronic format; they should have knowledge of Web design principles and experience with site development. Second-subject Master’s degree or 30 additional graduate credits and flexibility to work some evenings and weekends also preferred.
