Kirkwood Community College Libraries seek a creative, service-oriented librarian to develop a new Emerging Technologies Librarian position. This position requires the skills to implement new library technology initiatives such as Web 2.0 applications and creation of online Information Literacy instruction, as well as the ability to assist coworkers in their use. The position will also serve as liaison to the distance learning department. This position is for 15-20 hours per week and will work at both the Main Campus and Iowa City Campus Libraries. General Job Summary: The Emerging Technologies Librarian will identify, assess and implement quality applications in emerging technologies to meet the information needs of today’s digital students and staff. This dynamic position will continue to evolve with changing technologies, and will be concerned with what is innovative and what is useful. Current examples include making use of wikis, podcasting, RSS feeds, social networking programs, and Web 2.0 technologies.
The emerging technologies librarian will work with librarians and library support staff to provide the best quality of services to our students and staff and fulfill the library’s mission, vision and action plans. This position will also serve as a consulting librarian to the Distance Learning Department to facilitate library services for students taking distance or alternative format classes. This position is for 15-20 hours and will work at both the Main Campus and Iowa City Campus Libraries.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities
Constant Assist with collection and delivery of digital resources and services
Create and coordinate online tutorials and other digital learning objects for Information Literacy instruction of on-campus and distance learners.
Frequent Identify, evaluate and initiate 2.0 activities ( i.e., flickr, meebo, twitter, tafini, blogs, wikis, youtube) for use in library applications.
Serve as a Liaison / Consultant to the Distance Learning / Alternative Formats Department
Occasional Develop and maintain a presence in social networking sites like Second Life, Facebook, Myspace, etc
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Substantial completion of an MA or MLS from an ALA accredited program.
