Project Coordinator

The position is responsible for program development and administration of the International Coalition on Newspaper Program. This is a grant funded position expected to last through December, 2008. The candidate selected will report to the Director of International Resources.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manages day to day operations of the ICON program including, but not limited to: preparation of newspapers for microfilming; quality control; testing and administration of online databases; management of cataloging efforts and development of WEB content.
  • Analyzes and communicates the importance of the ICON program and its collection components to an international body of scholars, bibliographers, collection development officers, librarians, researchers, and information organizations facilitating both access to and preservation of materials.
  • Assists in the facilitation and mediation of collection partnerships, fostering collaborative approaches among member libraries, commercial vendors and nonprofit organizations that support scholarly access to, and preservation of, international information.
  • Analyzes work processes, planning for future needs, and applications of technology.
  • Provides analysis, evaluations, and reports on the collections and expenditures for library materials.
  • Continuously assists in the development of projects for grant funding and other remunerative partnerships across relevant information arenas.
  • Represents the ICON program and/or CRL at internal and external meetings, as needed.
  • Assists in the staff representation for the ICON steering committee.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • No less than two years of experience that includes a track record of increasing scope of accountability for administration and internal / external communication and coordination required. Experience must include responsibility for updating and maintain electronic media, lists and perform database maintenance. Prior experience support creation and production of news letters and/or collateral material and experience with libraries, collection development, content management, or cooperative programs strongly preferred.

· Masters degree (M.L.S.) in library science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program preferred; Other advanced degrees will be considered.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints. Must be able to exercise independent judgment, discretion and apply situational analysis in order to build and sustain positive, productive internal and external communication. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of information professionals to include librarians, bibliographers, scholars, administrators, vendors, and information entrepreneurs.

  • Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows- based network environment (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Calendar, Access). Familiarity with Web-based applications and tools. Knowledge of and experience with HTML or other structured markup languages. Familiar with RDBMS set-up and maintenance.
