Project Title:  Go Local Iowa

Brief project description:  MedlinePlus Go Local is a service for finding local resources for health-related issues.  Go Local Iowa is a collaboration of the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, the UI College of Public Health and the UIHC Patients’ Library.

 

Examples of key activities: Participants will identify and collect information about local health services, assign metadata and service terms using a controlled vocabulary, assist in development of new vocabulary terms, enter information in a National Library of Medicine-hosted database, solicit data from external organizations, analyze external data for data import/export, develop web-based publicity materials and/or tutorials, and similar projects.

 

Number of students that can be accommodated: 1-2 at a time.

 

Duration:  Fall 2007 onwards.

 

Skill Prerequisites:  None

 

Skills to be Acquired:  Metadata application, data analysis

 

Software/Hardware Involved:  Desktop database, National Library of Medicine-hosted Oracle database and web interface.
