Project Title:  Web 2.0 promotional strategies for digital collections

Brief project description: Digital librarians are exploring new strategies to draw attention to their online collections. By inserting links into the online encyclopedia Wikipedia and posting images to photo-sharing sites like Flickr, librarians are vastly expanding the way they reach users. This project would involve researching, planning, and executing Web 2.0 promotional strategies for the digital collections in the Iowa Digital Library. The fellow would also gain experience working with Library Information Technology and Marketing staff to create a method for analyzing Web statistics for the UI digital collections.

Examples of key activities:

  • Researching how other institutions are taking advantage of Web 2.0 to draw attention to digital collections
  • Creating a plan for implementing these strategies for existing and future collections
  • Create Flickr and Wikipedia sites that highlight UI collections
  • Work with LIT to analysis web hits to collections in the Iowa Digital Library
