Position Summary:
The Reference and Digital Services Librarian will lead the library’s efforts to effectively use current and emerging technologies in the provision of information services and resources. Responsibilities include reference service and user education. The position will have leadership responsibility for digital services and technology initiatives in the research, reference and instructional areas of the library.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Planning, implementing, and promoting innovative uses of current and emerging technologies in support of research, reference and instructional services and electronic access to library resources;
• Testing and evaluating new digital applications to support library services;
• Providing reference service using print and digital resources;
• Participates in leading library instruction sessions, tours and workshops;
• Conducting library staff and user training;
• Participates in designing and maintaining the library’s web pages;
• Collaborates in the identification of new digital resources for the library’s collection;
• Educates in, supports and promotes the use of emerging technologies in learning, teaching and research;
• Serving as a resource to students, staff and faculty on implementing and utilizing emerging technologies.
Requirements:
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program at the time of appointment is required. Experience in providing reference service is required, preferably in an academic library. Undergraduate or graduate degree in religion or theology is desirable.
A working knowledge of current and emerging technologies and their applications for public services and instruction is essential.
Candidates must demonstrate strong oral and interpersonal communication skills. Must also demonstrate a strong commitment to public service.
Candidates must possess strong organizational skills along with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Candidates must possess strong technological aptitude and skills. Keeping current by maintaining skills in, and knowledge of, the latest developments in emerging technologies is essential.
Experience with web page design and maintenance is strongly preferred. Understanding of computer hardware/software issues related to library services is desirable. Experience in teaching or library instruction is a plus.
