• In May 2008, several of the IMLS Digital Library Fellows will attend the Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. (May 14, 2008)

• As a culminating event for the semester, the IMLS Digital Library Fellows presented their work on their assigned digital projects for Spring 2008. (May 14, 2008)

• In light of African American History Month, IMLS DL Fellow Shawn Averkamp's project "African American Women Students at the University of Iowa, 1910-1960" received some attention:
  • Shawn was featured in the Daily Iowan article "New collection focuses on black women at UI." (February 13, 2008)
  • The collection was featured in a press release on the University Libraries' Library News. (February 12, 2008)
  • Shawn guest-blogged about her project for the Digital Library Services department. (February 5, 2008)
  • The collection is now profiled on the Iowa Digital Library Website.  See what Shawn has to say about the project. (February 2008)
  • The Iowa Digital Library was featured as the Digital Library of the Week in American Libraries Direct, the e-newsletter of the American Library Association.  Averkamp's project was also highlighted in the column. (February 2008)
  • The Cedar Rapids Gazette also covered Shawn's project. (February 2008)

• "Recipe Pamphlets from the Szathmary Culinary Arts Digital Collection," a project created by IMLS DL Fellow Jane Monson, is now profiled on the Iowa Digital Library Website.  See what Jane has to say about the project. (February 2008)

• With partial support from IMLS, all 10 IMLS DL Fellows attended the TEI workshop at UIUC. (February 22 - 24, 2008)

• IMLS DL Fellow Mark Anthoney presented a poster titled "Real Life Learning in Second Life" at 4Cast 2008 Workshop "Social Networking -- Opportunities & Impact on Teaching & Learning" organized by Center for Teaching - ITS - The University of Iowa Libraries.  Here are the poster and video Mark made for the event. • Jill Wehrheim's project "Civil War Diaries" is now profiled on the U Iowa Digital Library Services Website. Take a look at the almost 1600 pages of fragile materials that she has digitized and organized with metadata for the collection.  (December 2007)

• IMLS DL Fellow Elizabeth Hoover de Galvez and SLIS student Jared Price are co-authors on an extended abstract titled "Building "living documents" with XML in support of audience customization" that has been accepted for presentation at DOCAM 2008. (March 2008)

• IMLS DL Fellow Mark Anthoney's Second Life project was featured on the UI Daily Palette on January 28, 2008.

• School of Library and Information Science Awarded second IMLS grant to educate teacher librarians.

       Events

• Lorcan Dempsey, Vice President and Chief Strategist for OCLC, presented "The Network Reconfigures the Library" at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 21.  The talk was held in the Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol and was sponsored by the University Libraries' Speaker Program. (February 14, 2008)

• IMLS DL Fellow Elizabeth Hoover de Galvez demonstrated her XML project to the Hesperian Foundation.  The project resulted in an XML version of the "Where there is No Doctor" book with audio and customized images. (January 14, 2008)

• As part of his digital project, IMLS DL Fellow Mark Anthoney conducted the "Inaugural reading by Kate Thorpe in Second Life".  Details available through Mark's web site. (December 14, 2007)

• "Show and Tell Session": Students of Cohort 1 presented their digital library projects to projects to mentors, SLIS faculty and others. (December 19, 2007)
