Our Editorial Department is responsible for maintaining ThomasNet’s comprehensive database of 650,000+ industrial companies classified in over 67,000 product and service categories.
For this newly created position of Taxonomy Specialist, we seek a professional taxonomist, who enjoys managing people and processes, to join the Editorial team. This is a great opportunity to work with a collaborative team across the ThomasNet division to ensure that our award-winning website maintains the quality which defines its reputation. You will develop and manage taxonomies to organize and publish product-level and company content on ThomasNet.com properties. Specific responsibilities include:
1. Manage research efforts to identify new categories to be added to the base taxonomy.
2. Coordinate with other stakeholders existing taxonomies based on product category classifications and the development of new taxonomies to ensure logical relationships between schemas.
3. Assess scalability of content management infrastructures and develop new processes and workflows.
4. Manage and train members of the Editorial Department and temporary staff, as needed, on taxonomy-related projects.
5. Participate in problem resolution and quality control initiatives.
Requirements include:
• Degree in Library Science or related experience
• In-depth knowledge of taxonomy, metadata, controlled vocabularies and classification systems; engineering background, a plus
• Experience in creating, implementing and managing taxonomies in complex environments
• Experience with people management
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
• Excellent computer skills
