Beta Phi Mu is an international honor society for Library and Information Studies. More than 35,000 graduates from accredited programs around the world have joined.

The local chapter is Beta Beta Theta, advised by SLIS Professor Micah Bateman.

Membership is extended to SLIS students by invitation and no more than the top 25 percent of each graduating class can be invited.

The organization was founded in 1948 to “recognize and encourage scholastic achievement among library and information studies students. The motto, Aliis inserviendo consumor, meaning ‘Consumed in the service of others’ was selected by the founders based on the concept of dedication of librarians and other information professionals to the service of others.”
