Dr. David Eichmann spent more than two decades on the SLIS faculty. He began as a professor at SLIS in 1997 after leaving a teaching position at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He was appointed to Director of SLIS in 2013 and remained in that role until his retirement in June of 2021. 

While Director of SLIS Dr. Eichmann applied his background in computer science to better link the fields of library and information science in SLIS coursework. He led the intiative to implement synchronous remote courses in the program. 

Dr. Eichman has continued to work on research projects at the University of Iowa in his retirement.
