Brynne is currently the Associate Director of Web Strategy at the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She describes her career journey as “unexpected in the best ways,” stating “When I finished undergraduate, I really thought that learning was over for the most part. Thankfully that turned out to not be true. I've worked as a writer, editor, digital marketer, and information professional, being able to grow and stretch my expertise over time. SLIS is my most recent example of that and was one of my favorite experiences.” A part of this journey was a recent promotion, allowing her to lead the team that she had been a part of since 2023 as an associate director, which she described as the “coolest change.”
Brynne says that SLIS helped her journey by exposing her to a wider variety of frameworks to utilize in information organization, where she was able “ to use this new knowledge to become a better strategist, manager, and teammate.”
Her advice to current SLIS students? Follow your curiosity! “If you feel interested, engaged, and inspired by your work, you'll have an easier time remaining resilient and engaged.” She also wants us to remember that librarians are everywhere! “Stay connected and remember these skills are needed everywhere, people often just don't realize they need to ask for them.”
