Librarians work in many settings and serve diverse users. SLIS offers learning tracks for students who want to focus their education and training in specific areas of librarianship.  For students who wish to specialize, we offer a series of focused educational programs that align with areas that include special collections librarianship, public librarianship, and more. 

SLIS degree requirements are made up of five core courses (15 s.h.) and seven elective courses (21 s.h.). Specialization occurs primarily in your choice of electives. Some avenues of specialization are outlined below.
